Ferrari FF to Receive Major Update in 2016

The FF is widely considered to be the proverbial ugly duckling of the Ferrari flock. It's not as powerful or fun as the F12 and packs dozens of controversial design lines. However, it can also take four adults and their luggage to 200 miles per hour, so perhaps Ferrari is on to something.

Rather than ditch the ugly duckling, Maranello officials have apparently decided to put lipstick and mascara on it instead and send it to the gym to pack on some muscle. That's right, an update is on the way for the Ferrari FF, and according to Car Magazine, it will arrive in 2016.

The FF will not get a turbo engine like the California, but it will have 40 extra PS for a grand total of 700 PS. Considering the F12 Berlinetta offers 740 PS from a V12 engine of the same displacement, this rumored report sounds very credible.

Also planned for the shooting brake Ferrari is a cosmetic makeover, an eight-speed automatic gearbox and updates to the all-wheel drive drivetrain. Inside, Apple CarPlay will be the highlight of a refreshed dashboard. The company is also rumored to be working on a new type of steering rack with perfect levels of feedback.

Parent company Fiat has laid out a very clear future plan for Ferrari. Rather than launch all-new models after about 6 or 7 years, Maranello will instead introduce a major update once every four years. We've already detailed the one for the 458, which is going turbo in 2015 while taking the stage name M458-T.

No word on what the FF facelift will be called, though it could be something along the line of "FF M" or "MFF". Although not included in this latest report a mild hybrid drivetrain looks very likely.
