Yesterday, Ferrari put an end to speculation about its return to forced induction and revealed a heavily modified version of the California convertible. Powered by a brand new 3,855cc turbo'd V8 a la Maserati Quattroporte, the drop-top also features much improved looks thanks to F12berlinetta design language.
With those looks and that engine, the California is, for the first time in its life cycle, a very interesting. But there's something mission, or should I say something that's not mission. If you live in Miami and wear shorts and hula shorts, the convertible is fine, but real Ferrari drivers like coupes.
To shake that feeling that the California is just a car designed for celebs like Paris Hilton and Ashton Kutcher, we need a coupe, we need something to remind us of the Daytona and the 250 GTO without costing as much as an F12.
This next rendering shows what would happen if Ferrari would re-engineer the California to be a hardtop. The car will not only be lighter, but also stiffer and we think more beautiful as well. Paris Hilton wouldn't buy it, but we would in a heartbeat!
