Launched on January 2, 2012, /DRIVE was the first new series to air as part of Google’s original content initiative. Michael Spinelli of Jalopnik.com, Gumball 3000 veteran Alex Roy of Team Polizei 144, Matt Farah of TheSmokingTire.com and Chris Harris were part of the initial launch season and remained key contributors to the channel. With over 291,820,712 views and 1,295,165 subscribers, the YouTube channel can easily make for one of the most popular automotive ones out there.

The show was so successful it was even broadcasted by traditional television, on NBC. Debuting on May 24, 2014, it immediately followed the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix qualifying session coverage on NBC Sports. Chris’ decision to leave the “club” is quite the big deal, considering the team managed to build up quite the name in the automotive news.

New project to start in November

According to Chris Harris’ statement, the famous automotive journalist started working on a separate project, to be launched very soon. “I’ll remain a close friend of the /DRIVE brand and involved in its future productions, but will be offering even more access to my content through the next phase of Chris Harris on Cars, which will launch its new YouTube channel, free to air, November 12.”

Chris Harris has been driving and testing some of the rarest and fastest vehicles on the planet, including hypercars, prototypes, rare vintage cars and racing cars. The episodes Chris hosted every Wednesdays range from track days to road tests, reviews to comparisons, and sometimes a mix of everything.

Before getting involved in the /DRIVE project, Harris has written for magazines like Autocar UK and EVO, and finishing 13th in the 2010 24 Hours of Nurburging, as part of a team driving a stock Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
