Euro-spec Jeep Renegade Detailed

After it made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March and the US-spec model premiered at the New York Auto Show in April, the new Jeep Renegade has been detailed with what's packing for the European market. The B-segment SUV is set to take on rivals such as the Renault Captur, Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008 and upcoming Fiat 500X.

Slated to go on sale on the European side of the pond in the fourth quarter of 2014, the American manufacturer will offer the Renegade in four trim levels. Excluding the Opening Edition which will be offered at launch, the lil' one boasts with Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk specifications.

Although prices haven't been announced yet, not even for the U.S. market, the small crossover is expected to start from $18,500 in the States, a sum that converts at current exchange rates to roughly 14,500 euros and 11,500 pounds sterling. However, the actual starting prices for Europe and the United Kingdom will most definitely be a few grand higher than what the conversion rates tell.

Nevertheless, the new Renegade will be less expensive than the Cherokee, the current smallest Jeep in the lineup. Together with the upcoming Fiat 500X, which is expected to sport all-wheel drive, and the Nissan Juke, the fellow that started the whole B-segment crossover mania, the Jeep Renegade also gets four-wheel drive. Based on the badge it's wearing, we expect it to be the best of its segment in terms of off-road capabilities. If you plan to drive it mainly in the city, front-wheel drive is also on the menu.

As for powertrain options, two manual gearboxes are offered sporting five or six speeds, but buyers will also be offered a dual dry clutch automatic. A nine-speed automatic can be mated only to the range-topping petrol and turbo diesel powerplants. Speaking of which, the engine lineup includes two MultiAir2 petrol engines (1.4-liter and 140 PS; 1.4-liter and 170 PS), an E.torQ petrol mill (1.6-liter and 110 PS), a MultiAir Turbo engine (1.4-liter and 160 PS), as well as two MultiJet II turbo diesels (1.6-liter and 120 P; 2-liter with either 140 or 170 PS). The 184 hp 2.4-liter Tigershark will be available only in Russia.
