An electric unicycle sounded much like Star Trek fiction years ago, but 2014 will see this nifty and economical transport solution finally rolling down the street: RYNO the micro-cycle is in the final straight before entering production.

RYNO takes things one step further than the self-balancing bikes, such as the Lit C-1 or the Segway-like vehicles: we're talking one-wheeled personal transportation, which is not only as cool and futuristic as it gets, but also very convenient in terms of accessibility and occupied space.

The RYNO can reach a nice 10 mph (16 km/h) top speed and the two batteries are good for a 10-mile (16 km) range. This unicycle is both bicycle lane and pedestrian sidewalk-friendly, and with zero emissions, it can also access elevators and offices.

The riding position is adjustable, just like the shock absorber-loaded seat is, providing the optimal ergonomic for all types of riders.

Ultra-bright LED lights make sure riders see and are seen, and the batteries can be replaced easily and the operation requires no tools. They need 4.5 hours to fully charge and this means you can replenish the juice at home, at school or at work easily, as the RYNO can be charged using the traditional wall plugs.

RYNO weighs in at 160 lbs (72.5 kg) and can carry a load up to 250 lbs (113.2 kg). The tire is a real motorcycle one and provides good grip. Getting used to riding the RYNO reportedly takes about an hour, with several more days needed for a fully-confident ride.

To make sure you get yours, you can make a fully refundable $150 deposit. The RYNO will most likely retail for around $5,295 (€3,895).
