Energica Plans Electric Charger Network for 2017

Electric motorcycles - they are pretty fun, but you can’t take one and go out into the wilderness yet. Still, you could take any of the Energetica models on some of the most popular riding routes starting next year, as the company envisions a Tesla-like quick-charge network.

Italy-based Energica Motor Company S.p.A has some big news for its customers. The electric motorcycle manufacturer intends to deploy several fast charge points on the best roads motorcyclists love to ride through.

According to their press release, “Energica will either co-finance the installations of dedicated chargers (DC technology 20kw, Combo CCS standard plugs) or facilitate the access to existing ones. This will allow Energica customers to enjoy the best roads without any range anxiety.”

The automotive industry is already investing in such applications built on the main highways and around cities, but motorcyclists like riding mountains, hills, sea roads, often located far away from them. This is where Energica steps in to fill the gap and guarantee EV motorcycle rides.

Although most of the project is still on paper, Energica plans to install the first round of chargers in some locations in Italy and California by the 2017 riding season. None of the locations have been disclosed at the moment.

Apart from this great news, Energica is also planing to bring more value to its products. The idea is based on a package of measures including that the manufacturer will guarantee the value of the vehicles sold minimum 50% of the initial price after 24 months.

So, after 24 months of the motorcycle’s registration (minus 1 as notice), the owner can go back to the dealership and opt for one of the two deals available - trade it in for a new one, at a guaranteed minimum value of 50% from initial cost, or get a super-warranty for the battery for 100.000 km (62,140 miles) or 5 years, whichever comes first.
