Ecclestone Would Fancy Danica Patrick's Move to F1

With the US ready to make its comeback into Formula One calendar starting the 2012 season, Bernie Ecclestone should give something back. An all-American team would have been nice to begin with, but unfortunately the US F1 project died before it was properly born. So the next best thing would be an American racer, which the F1 supremo would love to see in his series as soon as possible.

As for his favorite US driver to see on the grid, the 79-year old Englishman did not leave any room for speculation. Bringing Danica Patrick would not only attract huge sponsorship into the sport, but also provide the perfect advertisement for the F1's comeback on the North American continent.

To have someone like Danica Patrick in F1 would be a perfect advert,” said Ecclestone in an interview with F1's official website.

Other than that, Ecclestone did not exactly attract the American public with his personal thoughts of their open-wheel racing series, arguing that the US needs to reconsider its attitude towards F1 racing.

Regarding an American driver, we have tried that lately but obviously what's missing is the right attitude. You can race successfully in the US without the huge effort you need to succeed in Formula One,” argued Ecclestone, hinting that F1 should be regarded as the ultimate challenge by any open-wheel racer in America.

The chances of Patrick entering F1 are slim-to-nonexistent however, as the 28-year old driver has committed to a future programme in NASCAR. She is currently doing selected rounds in the Nationwide Series with the backing of her main sponsor GoDaddy, looking to extend her presence in the well-known stock car racing series for 2011.
