Dynojet Team's Avensis BTCC to Use Toyota Power

The Toyota Avensis BTCC project is advancing, with the latest development coming from the Dynojet Race Team, who announced that its vehicle would be powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged powerplant that will be adapted from one of the carmaker’s road-going vehicles.

The engine is currently being developed at the Northamptonshire laboratories of engineering consultancy X CTech R, with the project being funded by Toyota GB. The unit, which delivers around 140 hp in road specification, is expected to exceed 300 hp for the racing Avensis. The company’s specialist hope that this will be one of the lightest and beefiest engine used in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The Toyota 3ZR engine is a lightweight, compact package which we have optimised to ensure delivery of the required performance and durability. This is an exciting programme and will allow us to showcase our experience with turbocharged touring car engines. We are looking forward to working closely with Dynojet and Frank to get the very best out of the complete package,” said Mark Faulkner, X CTech R technical director.

The Avensis has been designed to the ‘Next Generation Touring Car’ rules, which means we could have opted for the stock TOCA engine, however we were enormously impressed by the plans put forward by X CTech R and felt that this was the right way for us to go, not least because it means our Avensis will be 100 per cent Toyota,” added Dynojet Race Team chief Frank Wrathall Snr.
