Ducati to Unveil Limited Edition Hayden 848 at Laguna Seca
text size: A- A+
The new Ducati 848 Nicky Hayden Edition features an 848cc engine, which develops 134 horsepower, 30 percent more powerful than its predecessor, but provides a power-to-weight ratio even better than the 999.
The limited edition model is the first of the 2010 Ducati 848 models to arrive in showrooms. For 2010, the ‘Hayden Ducati’ features several upgrades, including LED dash illumination, a 30mm mirror extension kit, aluminium cam belt tensioner pulleys to reduce weight and moving mass, but also enabling better acceleration.
The 848 Testastretta Evoluzione engine makes use of a special technology for the construction of its crankcase: Vacural casting.
And since any motorcyclist is also interested in how a bike sounds, the 848’s exhaust system ends with Ducati's trademark twin under-seat silencers, delivering the signature sound of the big bore 90 degrees L-Twin, while also complying with Euro 3 exhaust emission norms.
Desmosedici-style digital instrumentation is taken from Ducati's MotoGP GP9 project, and as we said, it also has LED back-lighting for better visibility. Information additional to the default read-outs is managed by handlebar-mounted switch gear, allowing the rider to scroll through and select from various menus.
The electronic system also doubles as a control panel for the activation of the data acquisition system as well as listing lap times recorded when the high-beam flash button is used, just like a stopwatch.
The model will be available starting July at authorized Ducati dealers, featuring not only an American inspired theme, but also a personally autographed gas tank and model updates for 2010. The MSRP for this limited edition bike is $14,495.
