Ducati 899 Panigale Revealed in Frankfurt [Photo Gallery]
Seemingly looking forward to create and set the rules for a new superbike class, Ducati mention "Supermid" when describing the new machinery... which is truly nice, no matter what.
The new 899 Panigale is a proud descendant of the acclaimed 1199 version, and is fact it shares a lot of the technology and features of its bigger brother. With the design cues making it impossible to mistake the 899 Panigale with anything else, save for an 1199, the new Ducati is also an open door to those looking to get acquainted to supersport riding.
At the same time, the 899 Panigale is expected to come with a more budget-friendly price tag, helping Ducati push more bikes towards customers who are not ready yet to fork out really big bucks for their new Ducati.
On the tech side the 899 Panigale shows the monocoque frame of the 1199, with the new Superquadro engine as a stressed member. Delivering 148hp of pure, unadulterated power and 73 ft-lbs (99 Nm) of torque, the new Supermid Ducati is definitely not a toy for the beginning rider.
However, there's a lot of modern technology embedded in the new 899 to make life easier aboard it, and offer a performance boost to the weekend track warrior.
On the "easy side of life" we've got triple stage ABS, Ducati Traction Control and Engine Brake Control, all backed by the precise and predictable ride-by-wire throttle.
On the racing side, the 899 Panigale shows the Ducati Quick Shift, fully-integrated riding modes most likely accessible via handlebar buttons and a dry weight of only 169 kg (372.5 lbs).
The 899 Panigale was introduced by Claudio Domenicali, CEO Ducati Motor Holding and Ulrich Hackenberg from Audi AG.
