Not too long ago we were showing you just how bad things can get on a track like the Nurburgring if you pick the wrong tires on a proper performance car. Now, it’s time to take a look at yet another unbelievable video, this time with a less powerful car but a much wetter track.
Apparently, this video was shot in November 2013, just before the Green Hell was closed. As you probably know, to protect people from doing such stupid stuff, the Ring is closed starting in November until the winter finally passes. Come spring, everyone is invited to rejoice in the pleasures of racing.
The car is a BMW E36 328i and is being driven by one of the guys from Bridge to Gantry. According to the video’s own description, the whole thing was started by a comment overheard in a restaurant claiming that only a ‘total idiot’ would risk his like on the ring on a day like this. Challenge accepted!
To get a better idea of the atmospheric conditions in which this clip was shot, you should know that the temperature gauge showed 3 degrees Celsius (37.4 Fahrenheit) and it was raining. Not just ordinary rain but mixed with snow from time to time.
In these conditions, few people would actually take on the Ring, let alone in a care with rear-wheel drive. Our hero here, admits that this shouldn’t be done by any means but still decides to head out to have some fun. In the following 12 minutes he ends up turning what was supposed to be a driving session, into ice skating. With a car. Just watching it gave us goosebumps...
