Dovizioso Anticipates Tough Season
Dovizioso, who's currently fifth in the overall standings, will leave JiR Team Scot at the end of the season to join Dani Pedrosa at Repsol Honda. Working with a new team could prove to be quite difficult, Dovizioso explained, but the 22-year-old rider is willing to give his best in order to record a successful season.
"Developing a bike while riding quick is very difficult. I've never had the chance to do this kind of job up to now, but I feel motivated. I only need to understand how the team will be organized and the way Honda works. I expect a competitive bike, even though it's perhaps not the absolute best at the moment. I expect a bike that is not too different from the one I have, but I think that with that bike you can go not only quicker, but also with better consistency. And if you're consistent, you can go even quicker,” Dovizioso told Motorsprint Magazine.
The Italian rider had a pretty good season so far, gaining a total of 145 points in 16 races, 37 points behind Jorge Lorenzo of Fiat Yamaha Team. However, Dovizioso sees a more competitive season in 2009 and hopes to get the best of his new bike even from the first Grands Prix.
"But you need to build up a good feeling with the technicians: you need to make them understand what you need, and they need to be good at understanding your needs and react as soon as possible. That's the real difference. And that's the kind of work that allows you to win”, Dovizioso explained.
