Doriano Romboni was reportedly hit by another rider after crashing in the second practice session at the Sagittario International Circuit, at Latina, Italy. He was immediately airlifted to the intensive care of a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite the massive efforts of the medical team.

The sporting Commission of the Italian Motorcycling Federation canceled the Sic Supermoto Day in respect of Doriano and his family.

Doriano Romboni retired after the 2004 WSBK season, putting an end to a career comprising WSBK racing in 1999, 2000 and 2004, Italian Superbike in 2003, and GP 125cc, 250cc and 500cc racing. He would have been 45 on December 8th.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
