Doking XD EV, the First Croatian Electric Vehicle

There are several things in XD EV's story which, normally, would at least make you to raise an eyebrow. Of course, being a Croatian electric vehicle is not one of them...

The XD electric vehicle is the brainchild of the Doking company, a company which describes itself as being "famous in the world" for the things it normally produces: robotic mine clearance and fire-fighting systems.

Presented at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, the XD is a three seater which offers, thanks to an unspecified drivetrain, performance similar to a compact sport cars with 200 hp (Dok-Ing's words): naught to 62 acceleration time of 7.7 seconds.

Of course, that "zippy" figure may be somewhat affected by Doking's latest decision: fit the XD with oversized OZ wheels, supplied by Croatian tire retailer Vulkall.

Nonetheless, the XD is here, tires and all, and, if some conditions are met (funds, time and so on), it might even turn production. Apparently, they are, as Dok-ing even went as far as to announce it found enough understanding (read money) with investors to turn the XD into a mass-produced vehicle.

If it will really hit the streets, it will provide an electric range of 250 km (155 miles).

"Doking vision that the world needs to be presented with an attractive, comfortable and spirited urban car, 'battery powered' of great autonomy, has proved to be right. Oz, careful to environmental themes, is pleasant to cooperate to this project setting electric city car XD with its wheels," XD's creators say in a statement.

Truth be told, we wouldn't mind to see the XD in a more up-close-and-personal fashion in the near future. At least, it has its great looks going for it...
