BMW’s new M235i is probably the car with the best bang for buck ration in today’s line-up. Priced just over $40,000, the 2er will get you the trademark inline 6-cylinder engine BMW is known for, 326 HP and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque on the rear wheels, plenty for a light car like this. It’s all bringing back E46 Coupe memories...
Now, Dinan stepped in and released a set of performance parts for the Coupe that are supposed to take it even further. First up on their list was a new exhaust.
We tested the M235i and we were satisfied with the sound it made but over at Dinan things are a bit different. They considered there’s room for improvement, not only in the sound department but also from a performance point of view. Therefore, they created the Free Flow exhaust for the 2 Series.
It’s a bolt on system featuring 16 gauge 304 stainless steel that’s basically plug and play, being built to the exact specifications of the stock one. Thanks to a Heimholtz chamber, the drone is supposed to be eliminated inside the car.
Up next, they introduced the Dinantronics Performance tuner that is also available for the 3 Series, 5 Series and the M5. Thanks to it, your car’s power output can go up to 364 HP and 407 lb-ft (555 Nm) of torque without losing your warranty. And that’s just Stage 1.
Last but not least, there are the Dinan Performance Springs that lower the ride’s height by 1/2” up front and 1” round the back for a lower center of gravity and better handling.
“The M235i is one of the most fun R&D vehicles we’ve ever had,” said Dinan Engineering President Steve Dinan. “We’re excited to see where we can push this car and what kind of extra performance we can extract from the N55 and this nimble chassis.”
Every product comes with warranty and has a matching price tag. The exhaust costs $1,799, the Dinantronics tuner will set you back $1,999 while the springs cost $299.
