Diane Kruger Drives Her Mercedes ML: Not a Green Car Fan Anymore?

German actress and former fashion model Diane Kruger was recently seen driving her Mercedes ML SUV. Even though the third generation model includes an updated 7G-Tronic Plus seven-speed automatic transmission to provide improved fuel economy, the ML is far from being its fellow green B-Class fuel cell model, she drove in Mercedes’ ad released in January.

You know her for roles such as Helen in Troy, Dr. Abigail Chase in National Treasure and its sequel, Bridget von Hammersamark in Inglorious Bastards, Anna in Mr. Nobody or Gina in Unknown. Or most likely you follow her in the FX television series The Bridge, as Detective Sonya Cross.

Well, in the auto market, she is best known as one of the few drivers to own a Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell, which is a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle. Two different versions are known, with the B-Class being the newest model. The fuel cell is a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), designed by the Automative Fuel Cell Cooperation (AFCC) Corporation which uses Hydrogen and its only emission is water.

In January, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson took part of one of Mercedes’ marketing stunt. Both having owned a Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell for over two years, the two went for a camping trip in the heat of Death Valley without any water supply, as all their drinking water would be created on board by the B-Class F-Cell. But we already wrote about this.

Problem is, it would seem Kruger is not such a green-car fan anymore, considering she is now driving the less ecologic Mercedes model. The current generation Mercedes-Benz ML-Class has been on sale globally since mid-2011. Boasting of significant improvement in key areas including design, luxury and efficiency; the model, now in its third generation, continues to post impressive sale numbers for Mercedes-Benz in the luxury SUV segment.

New features in the 2012 M-Class include optional Adaptive Cruise Control (Distronic Plus), Active Lane Departure Warning System, and an adjustable-height air suspension. The Mercedes M-Class won first place in the “Luxury Crossover SUV” category and has been named the most ideal vehicle for Americans based on a study undertaken by California-based automative research and consulting firm Auto Pacific. Even the current Popemobile is based on the 2012 M-Class and was delivered in December 2012.
