Daimler to Use Siemens CAD
The Siemens NX software CAD, CAE and CAM solutions comprises a wide range of tools for shape creation, manipulation and analysis. It covers all areas of automotive and non-automotive design, including mechanical, electromechanical and even tooling and fixture.
“The combination of NX CAD software with our product data management system Smaragd, which is based on Teamcenter, will integrate our entire product creation process from design through production planning down to managing production machines,” said Bharat Balasubramanian, Daimler for Research and Development responsible.
A computer-based tool for the entire product development process for a vehicle will be setup by Daimler using the Siemens software.
Siemens is currently one of the main providers of CAD software to automakers. Earlier this year, the Americans from Chrysler chose the exact same product. Out of 68 million cars produced in 2008, 64 million have been created with the help of the Siemens software.
“Our CAD and PLM software will help manufacturers enhance their development processes and their production planning and therefore increase their productivity,” said Chuck Grindstaff stated, Siemens PLM Software president.
Dassault on the other hand, the one who lost the Daimler CAD contract, will continue to work with the Germans and supply them with the CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA, SIMULIA, and 3DVIA systems. Earlier this year, a contract for the same products was signed by Dassault with Daimler's rivals, BMW.
