During the past three years or so, Mercedes-Benz has been on a product offensive whose ultimate aim is to lift the Stuttgart brand to the highest position of the premium segment sales chart.
With BMW not looking like it wants to hand it over without a fight, Mercedes-Benz has had to give it its best - and the latest models to come out of Stuttgart do a very good job of reflecting that. Despite having almost every possible niche covered, this new Mercedes-Benz isn't the type of manufacturer to sit idly and wait to see what happens.

These recent years have proven that it can play on all fronts, from small family cars to the madness that is the Mercedes-AMG GT R. A recently revealed product plan for the next year shows that this incessant activity is hardly going to stop, making 2017 almost just as busy as the current year.

You've already seen most of the planned models in spy shots wearing different levels of camouflage, but the chart does hold one big surprise. We're talking about the GLA Coupe, a car that is going to open up a new niche, taking further down the model range the trend started by the GLE Coupe, with the link between the two provided by the GLC Coupe.

With the GLA already looking like a very sporty crossover, it's hard to imagine there is any real need for a coupe version, especially since the interior and trunk space aren't exactly stellar to begin with. The GLA Coupe will be joined by the E-Class All Terrain, a model that has just shown up in the first spy photos, and immediately spawned what looks like an AMG performance version as well.

The long-touted Mercedes-Benz pickup truck looks set to make its official appearance as well, together with the production start of the Mercedes-AMG GT R and electric versions for the smart fortwo cabrio and smart forfour. The two AMG GT versions, the Roadster and the Coupe, also feature in the scheme, both with a "C" suffix which could stand for a new sub-model, since a facelift is a bit unlikely after just three years from launch.

It looks like the varied range of vehicles currently offered by Mercedes-Benz is going to become even more varied, which is good news for everyone, except BMW. And those who can't make their minds easily.
