Dacia Working on New Logan

Dacia, Renault’s low cost brand based in Romania, has already made steps on the way to become an established name, with the future looking good.

Now, the automotive producer is working hard to develop the second generation of the model that launched it in its modern era. We are talking about the new Logan, codenamed X52.

Dacia is currently negotiating with a long list of suppliers, which includes 54 domestic companies and 134 coming from abroad, to create the new vehicle, as zf.ro writes.

Creating an image (design and tech wise) of the second generation Logan is like solving a huge puzzle, as each supplier can only tell its side of the story (the suppliers have only received limited info about the upcoming model).

Let’s start with the engine range. First of all, the next Logan will use engines that meet euro 5 emission standards - as we reported, Dacia will start building Euro V powerplants for the Renault Group. The same engines that are used now will be mounted under the hood of the new Logan, but with certain modifications aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions, while offering a slight increase in power and torque.

Elba Timisoara, the Romania company that will deliver the headlights and taillights for Dacia, said that it has been developing LED technologies, with the new Dacia potentially using these.

As Dacia’s Mioveni plant in Romania is reaching its maximum output capacity (300,000 vehicles per year), Renault will outsource a part of the X52’s production to its factories in Russia and Morocco.

The Dacia Logan II is expected to make its market debut sometime in 2012.
