Almost three years have passed since Renault launched the Dacia brand in Britain. It's there that the 3.5 millionth car was just sold and delivered. The model in question is a black Sandero Stepway purchased by a family in Aldershot, a town 60 km (37 miles) southwest of London.
It is not actually Dacia number 3,500,000. That's because the count starts with the brand's revival in 2004 and the first generation of the Logan sedan.

Before that, Renault purchased the Romanian company in September 1999. A year later, they launched an updated car called the SupeRNova, an improved version of the Nova with engine and transmission from Renault. After that came the Solenza.

While popular in Romania, these two models are insignificant compared to their predecessor. During more than three decades of production, Dacia assembled over 2.5 million units of the 1300 and 1310. So, in reality, total production for the company is well above 6 million.

“Today we are handing over the key to the 3.5 millionth Dacia and I am very pleased to be doing so in the UK, where the brand was launched in 2013,” said Denis Le Vot, Sales & Marketing Senior Vice President for Europe G9. “In reaching this milestone of 3.5 million customers, Dacia confirms its success thanks to a clear and simple promise that perfectly meets the expectations of customers seeking safe, reliable cars with modern features and services at affordable prices.”

The story of the person who bought this Dacia is as interesting as the progress made by the brand. Judy Panov is a married mother of two who became interested in the Sandero after her parents returned from a trip to Turkey. During their trip, Jody’s parents saw many Dacias on the road and suggested that their daughter find out more because they “seemed like good cars.”

Jody visited a showroom and was won over by the design of the Stepway model. Little did she know that a press release would later be written about her. Of course, to do that, her kids and husband had to pose for a photo op. She claims she couldn't believe how affordable it was and when she was at the dealership to place the order, she kept thinking there must be a hidden cost somewhere.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
