Romanian budget brand Dacia has pretty much spent all its powder in the battle to revitalize the lineup. However, there is still cash in the bank for development of niche derivatives, which aren't as expensive to make. At the upcoming Paris Motor Show, company officials are expected to unveil Stepway versions of both the Lodgy and Dokker models, nothing more, nothing less.
For those still unfamiliar with the Stepway name, let us clarify that it implies an offroad package. It was initially added to the first-generation Sandero and means Dacia models are better suited to coping with dings and scratches. This idea bodes well for these two cars we mentioned, which appeal to construction workers, plumbers and farmers.
This next rendering shows what the Lodgy Stepway will probably look like come reveal time. The interesting thing is that the graphic manipulator didn't have to work all that hard. The body kit is already on sale in France as an off-road package costing €490 extra. It includes fender extensions, an aluminum-look diffuser, and raised suspension.
Since Dacia views Stepway models as a top trim level, features like fake leather seats and navigation will probably be available. The most powerful engines in the range will be offered, their top pick being the 1.5 dCi with 90 horsepower, capable of a fuel consumption in the region of 4 l/100km (58.8 mpg).
As a reminder, the Lodgy is a compact MPV, launched at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. It's built at Renault's factory in Tangier, Morocco, alongside the Dokker, which is classed as both a leisure activity vehicle and a small van.
