British football club Crystal Palace's defender Pape Souare is currently in hospital following a violent crash that took place yesterday afternoon.
The athlete was driving his Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG on the M4 motorway, close to Heathrow Airport, when he got involved in a two-vehicle accident.
While we don't have the details of the crash, or the info regarding the other car, Souare ended up hitting the barrier on the median strip.
"Crystal Palace Football Club regret to confirm that Pape Souare was yesterday (Sunday) involved in a car accident and taken to hospital in London. The player has sustained injuries to his thigh and jaw bone and will remain in hospital whilst he receives treatment. The club are liaising closely with the hospital on his progress and we obviously wish him a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with Pape and his family at this time," the Crystal Palace statement on the unfortunate event reads.
Rescuers had to cut off a major section of the Gelandewagen's body to free the driver. Once that operation was completed, he was airlifted to the hospital. However, as a police statement lets us know, the injuries sustained by the defender are not the life-threatening kind.
When it comes to the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, multiple unofficial reports claim the man walked away unharmed.
The crash that injured the Senegalese player caused massive traffic issues. According to various tweets of drivers who got stuck in the resulting jam, the delay lasted for at least one hour.
