Being an excellent football player and having a red Ferrari in your garage doesn't necessarily bring you the best driver on road title.

On the “stars are usually involved in outstanding crashes that make their cars toast” principle, Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo crashed his red Ferrari this morning on the way to training, BBC reported.

The accident happened in the tunnel which takes traffic under the airport runways between Wilmslow and Hale, Cheshire. at about 10:20 a.m. when the 23-year-old football player crashed into a barrier.

According to Greater Manchester Police, his team-mate Edwin van der Sar was following in his Bentley, but he wasn't involved in the crash. As the matter of fact, no other vehicle was part of Ronaldo's accident.

Jody Lomax, an witness to the scene was driving behind Ronaldo when the crash happened. "The Ferrari went straight into the wall, his front left-hand wheel came off and then Ronaldo got out of the car," he said.

Although the car was severely damaged, Ronaldo emerged from the vehicle unhurt and later even went to his regular training. An eye witness described how the front edge of the sports car had been completely demolished and rolled about 200 yards away from the scene. A rear tyre was completely flat.

“I got there just after the accident had happened and saw the state of the car. It is amazing he got out of it without a scratch,” the witness confessed.

The Portuguese football player gave a negative breath test, but officers are still investigating the causes of the crash.

In the meantime, Ronaldo will continue his training with the Manchester United Club.

"He's fine and is training as normal with the team this morning," a spokesman of the club said.

Ronaldo is believed to own £145,000 Ferrari F430, but it's not pretty clear whether this was the car he was driving this morning.

Something is sure though: no matter what Ferrari was involved in the accident, it was a Ferrari! Too bad for the car!
