Consumer Reports: Hyundai Genesis Outscores Acura TL, Lincoln MKS
Basically, Hyundai Genesis is regarded as a very powerful competitor for Acura and Lincoln, but which packs the advantage of a low price, one of the most important aspects during recession times. And according to Consumers Reports, this fact brought the Genesis among the top vehicles in the category.
"The Hyundai Genesis rivals high-end luxury sedans but costs considerably less," said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center in East Haddam, Connecticut. "Its luxurious and spacious interior and quietness far transcend its relatively modest price."
Genesis was tested against several other competitive sedans, including Acura TL, Nissan Maxima, Pontiac G8 and Lincoln MKS, all these models with prices between $33,660 for the Pontiac and $40,880 for the Lincoln. Two other models gained the “Excellent” road test ranking – TL and Maxima, while Pontiac G8 and Lincoln MKS were rated as “Very Good”.
“Spacious and well appointed, the rear-wheel-drive Genesis offers good value and is a compelling alternative to luxury vehicles costing thousands more,” Consumer Reports editors mentioned in a statement released to the press.
The interior looks awesome and can easily compete with any other luxury car in its class, they wrote, but there's still one main glitch: “its ride, which can be unsettled at times and doesn't live up to the standards set by other luxury cars.”
Hyundai Genesis 3.8 is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine that develops a maximum power of 290 hp and produces an average fuel consumption of 21 mpg. “The six-speed automatic transmission provides smooth, quick shifts. Braking is excellent,” CR said in the report.
Hyundai Genesis 3.8 has a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $36,000.
