A disturbing story comes from Connecticut, as a local judge has found Aaron “AJ” Huntsman,a 45-year-old state trooper guilty of third-degree larceny and tampering with evidence. However, the really nasty thing is that Huntsman’s felonies also involve a dead motorcyclist, by the name of John Scalesse.
Scalesse was killed after he crashed his motorcycle into a construction company truck in Fairfield, Connecticut, and Huntsman was the first trooper at the scene of the accident. Upon the retrieval of the body, Scalesse’s family started to ask questions about the missing gold chain and crucifix he used to wear around his neck and money he was supposed to have with him.

An investigation was started and footage from the camera installed on Huntsman’s cruiser reportedly revealed images of him picking the gold chain from a pool of blood, as well as a sum of money from the dying 49-year-old Scalesse. When confronted by his superiors, Huntsman declared that he had left the gold chain worth $5,500 (€4,065) in his car, denying he took the money. However, the money ($3,700 or €2,735) was found under the seat of Huntsman’s car.

With this evidence, the trooper, who has been serving in the force for 19 years, entered an Alford Doctrine plea. He still maintains his claim of innocence, but considers that the evidence is enough to have him convicted when administered into a trial. The judge will sentence Huntsman to 18 months in prison on October 3rd, with the latter having the right to argue for a lesser term. In case the case went to trial, Aaron Huntsman could have possibly got a 10 years in prison sentence. Huntsman will also be on probation for 5 years after his time in jail.
