Currently built in Italy and Brazil, the Jeep Renegade is as slick as a can of grease and as hot as lava. The B-segment (subcompact) crossover SUV is the brand’s newest hit, but there’s a transmission problem with the ZF 9-speed automatic hampering US deliveries.
A “quality concern” with the software that governs the 9-speed automatic transmission is the culprit behind a two-mile long line of 2015 Jeep Renegades parked on a test track in Toledo, Ohio. When Automotive News uncovered this mess-up, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne gingerly told: “I’m having a very bad engineering day.”
Thankfully though, Sergio’s headache and anticipating customers need no worry any longer. According to the previously mentioned publication, some Fiat 500X cars are also affected.
The mysterious software issue with the transmission looks as if it has been resolved for both models.
A company spokesman has confirmed that the vehicles are due to arrive at dealers this week. The peeps from AutomotiveNews were told by a Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles spokesman that “only about 20 Renegades with the problem had made it to consumers before the problem was identified.”
As for the Fiat 500X, the publication informs: “the Fiat crossovers began showing up [at the test track in Toledo, Ohio] just before Memorial Day." After it went on sale in March, the 2015 Jeep Renegade got over the first recall-worthy hiccup with flying colors. As for the Fiat 500X, this little scalawag will arrive in mid-June.
Both models use much of the same oily bits and are assembled at Fiat’s plant in Melfi, Italy.
