Codemasters Announces GRID 2 With Spectacular Trailer

Thanks to Codemaster’s ultra-vast experience in the field of driving games, which range from simulators to arcade, and from off-road offerings to strictly on-road ones. In the latter category, one of their most successful asphalt-only titles of recent years is Grid - a track-focused racing game with great physics and car control which sits squarely in the middle, when it comes to realism, as the cars do react naturally and under/oversteer realistically, but it doesn’t get so difficult that you end up throwing you controller at the screen.
Now, four years after the launch of the first GRID, the UK studio has just announced the second installment in the series, a game which promises to be quite different to its predecessor. Whereas the first game only took place on tracks, in a professional racing environment, the focus of the second game shifts towards road racing as well, as it features "a selection of handpicked automotive icons spanning four decades and three continents," which you will get to race "on beautiful city streets, licensed circuits or knife-edge mountain roads."

GRID 2 will probably be released in the summer of 2013 and judging by the level of quality Codemasters has put into all of its recent offerings, we expect the second installment of GRID not to be any different. Our only concern is the fine line between realistic car handling, fun and ease of play - if they stray too far into the arcade sphere, it will definitely put off some more hardcore racing fans, us included.
