Classic Recreations, an American aftermarket player that was charged with VIN swapping and subsequently acquitted is now showing the world that it means business, offering a remake project for a 1967 Shelby Mustang GT.

The project, which uses the G.T.500CR name is not a restoration, as it has been fitted with multiple modern technologies. Two examples of the vehicle were displayed at this year’s SEMA show, one being showcased at Ford’s stand and the other at the Cobra Electronics booth.

Both vehicles use a hand-built 427 cu-in (7.0 liter) V8 crate engine that delivers 545 hp. The unit works together with a Tremec manual gearbox and sends the power to the road via Shelby 427 17-inch rims.

The suspension, steering and brakes now use modern, high-performance part in order to offer a high level of driving dynamics. The starting price for one of these machines is $119,000. However, Classic Recreations are working on a Venom version that will produce 780 hp and retail for $199,000.

"The G.T.500CR is meant to be driven," Classic Recreations founder Jason Engel said. "Although the overall look is vintage Shelby, essentially this is modern sports car technology wrapped in vintage Shelby GT500 sheet metal. We had a blast watching the car do what it was built to do. Classic Recreations offers additional options on all our builds and next year we're bringing out one of our supercharged, 780 hp "Venom" models with four-link rear suspension and we'll really show them what we can do."
