The funny thing about European brands selling cars in Asia is that they're not afraid to play into the stereotypes. So instead of calling it the C4 Sedan, Citroen has decided its new compact sedan is going to be called C-Quatre in China. How French!
The first teaser sketches were released today, and we can't say we hate it. Its design is somewhat similar to a Jetta in its simplicity, but with cues taken from the latest concept cars.
Production is rumored to start in 2016, so we might get to see a concept car first, just like it happened with the Volkswagen NMC four-door coupe. That could be the reason why this sketched product appears a little wider than we've come to expect from compact cars.
We've seen this budget model testing in Europe as well and have learned that it has the internal codename BZ3. It will be a notchback sedan developed as part of a joint venture with Dongfeng and measuring between 4.5 and 4.6 meters.
The only picture of the interior they gave us suggests a minimalist design approach and the availability of an automatic gearbox. If this is what Citroen interiors will look in the future, we'll be quite happy.
Interestingly, rumors from France suggest Citroen will discontinue the C4 hatchback altogether and replace it with this car. Considering they're only selling 90,000 units per year, the decision seems founded, though controversial.
We'll get to see the C-Quatre for the first time in September at the Chengdu Motor Show. Likely based on the EMP2 platform, this sedan will be powered by the latest PSA engines, including the 1.2 e-THP 3-cylinder turbo that seems to find its way into more and more cars.
Citroen also sells the C-Elysee, C4L and another sedan based on the old C4. Hopefully, at least one of them will be replaced by this thing.
