A year before the C6 executive fastback sedan was phased out of production, Citroen started making the DS5. Compared to the C6, the DS5 is a quirky-looking MPV sort of thing, which is not something we'd classify as beautiful. But nevertheless, the third model in the DS lineup is interesting in its own way and paved the way for diesel-electric cars.
But here's the thing: next year, the Sochaux-made machine will receive a facelift. And oh, looky here, our carparazzi already spotted some test mules of the Citroen DS5 facelift. Unlike other automakers, the Frenchies didn't even bother camouflaging the updated DS5, but we understand why: aesthetic changes are minimal over the pre-facelift model.

Keep in mind that these prototypes don't feature all the revamped cosmetic bits and bobs, so the production version of the DS5 facelift will be that little bit more different than what our carparazzi spotted. Starting with the rear of this thing, it's clear as day that instead of Citroen written as we do it in the US or Europe, the lettering on the left is either Citroen written in Chinese or Chang'an, while the right side of the rear door gets DS5 lettering. The funny thing is that these vehicles were spotted in Southern Europe, not China, where the Citroen DS5 is also built by a state-owned carmaker called Chang'an.

Another contrasting detail over the current DS5 is represented by some LEDs in the tail light clusters and that kind of covers what's new at the rear. The front, however, is virtually the same as before, but we have a sneaking suspicion that designers will revamp at least the headlights. It's hard to put the finger on what exactly to expect from the updated model, but a little nip and tuck up front is certainly on the menu. Although hardly visible, we have identified some visual changes that might make it.

Test vehicles caught on film sport small changes at the air intakes and front bumper design. As for the oily bits, we don't expect something all-new to come along in 2015, when the updated Citroen DS5 will hit China and select European markets. Besides the typical improvements in terms of fuel economy and CO2 emission, the powertrain will most probably feature the same engines as ever before: a THP 200 petrol and four turbo diesels, ranging from the e-HDi 115 to the range-topping BlueHDi 180.
