Citroen DS3 Cabrio Confirmed

Citroen will expand its DS premium vehicle range, introducing a cabrio version of the C3-based DS3 model.A company insider conformed the development of the model speaking to whatcar, but didn’t offer specific details. As a result, it is unclear if the topless premium compact will use a soft top or a folding metal roof.

We will also have to wait and see if the DS3 convertible will inherit the hatch’s engine range. The latter offers a choice of three petrol units and two diesel powerplants.

The entry level engine is a 1.4 liter gasoline one that offers 90 hp and136 Nm of torque. This is followed by a 1.6 liter unit, which delivers 120 hp and a maximum torque of 160 Nm. The petrol range is topped by a turbocharged 1.6 liter unit (also found on the MINI Cooper) that comes with 156 hp & 240 Nm of torque. The diesel part of the range consists of two versions of the 1.6 liter HDI engine, which offers 90 hp & 229 Nm and 110 hp & 270 Nm of torque.

However, Citroen has confirmed that it won’t build a topless version of the 200 hp DS3 Racing limited edition hot hatch.

The earliest market entry date for the DS3 Convertible is 2012, with the vehicle expected to have a starting price that will come with a EUR3,000 premium over the hatchback’s version one.

The PSA Peugeot Citroen Alliance plans to become an important name on the premium vehicles market. After Citroen introduced the DS high-end range with the launching of the DS3, Peugeot announced it is creating the Hors-Serie division, with the RCZ being the first model.
