Citroen's C5 mid-size model lives on through another model year with the help of the latest diesel engines developed by Peugeot. The flagship of the double chevron brand will be available this summer with two brand new 2-liter BlueHDi diesel engines that will help it compete with the 2015 VW Passat and Ford Mondeo.
The base unit is the BlueHDi 150 S&S, and it's equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox. There's also a BlueHDi 180 S&S that the French mated to the latest EAT automatic gearbox. These mills were originally seen on the Peugeot 308 and made their way onto the larger 508 as well, promising better fuel consumption.
Unlike the 508, the Citroen C5 can't afford to get another mid-life facelift. Instead, they are updating it with the usual design tricks. The selection of wheels has been updated, with the Confort models getting 17-inch alloys while the Hydractive Exclusive offers 18-inch alloys. Meanwhile, the choice of paint finishes now includes Moka Brown.
Useful technologies have also been added into the mix, like the 7-inch touchscreen display, for example. As well as making the dash look less cluttered, this new tablet screen also includes a touch-sensitive navigation system with 3D views, a multimedia player, USB audio streaming, telephone hands-free function and vehicle settings.
The C5 sedan with the BlueHDI 150 engine starts at a very reasonable €31,400 after a €9,400 discount, while the 180 PS model is €35,000. Even if you get the most expensive model with the trick suspension and bi-Xenon headlights, you're still not going to spend more than €40,000.
