Chrysler Group Sales Increased 20 Percent in August, Best August Sales Since 2002

Great times at Chrysler these days, alright. The automotive group reported its 53rd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains, moving 198,379 vehicles the former month. That's about 20 percent better than August 2013 sales, when 165,552 cars have been sold by Chrysler in the United States.

“Chrysler Group sales soared 20 percent last month resulting in our strongest August sales in 12 years,” declared Reid Bigland, head of U.S. Sales. “Our Jeep brand continued its torrid sales pace recording its best August sales ever and our Ram Truck brand contributed with a massive 39 percent sales increase, both helping Chrysler Group achieve its 53rd-consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth,” Reid concluded.

Like the man said, the Jeep brand performed best, with sales up 49 percent, the largest sales gain of any other Chrysler Group brand for the month. The all-new Jeep Cherokee and the Jeep Patriot each turned in their best monthly sales ever. The aging Patriot’s 27 percent sales gain was the largest percentage year-over-year sales increase of any Jeep model in August, but the Wrangler logged its best ever sales for the month of August thanks to 17,988 units moved.

Ram Truck also enjoyed a very good month. In fact, its best August sales in 11 years. Pickup truck sales hiked 33 percent. The light-duty has posted a 31 percent increase, while the heavy-duty enjoyed a 39 percent sales hike. August also was the brand’s best sales month so far this year. As for the ProMaster van, sales were up 36 percent compared to July sales figures.

Down at Chrysler, sales improved by a modest 4 percent, driven by the all-new 2015 Chrysler 200 and Town & Country. Sales of 2014 and 2015 model year 200 mid-size sedans were up 7 percent compared to August 2013. Sales of the Town & Country were up 11 percent, the minivan’s best ever August sales.

Now comes the Dodge brand. Sales were down 6 percent in August compared with the same month a year ago. However, both the Journey and Dart set sales records last month. Journey sales were up 3 percent, the crossover’s best monthly sales ever, while Dart sales increased 22 percent, the compact sedan’s best ever sales in the month of August. The Dart’s increase was the largest percentage sales gain of any Dodge brand nameplate in the month of August 2014.

Down at Fiat, August sales took a 20 percent dive due to a 500L recall affecting an estimated 29,500 vehicles in the United States of America and Canada. Those vehicles will have their knee airbags replaced by dealer service departments. The only notable performer in the lineup was the 500 city car, enjoying a 12 percent rise.
