Good new from the US auto industry once again today, as one of the Big Three seems to have put the bast behind it. Chrysler is on its way to achieving a profit of $3 billion or over in 2012, as the automaker has already achieved more than half its sales target for the year.
“I checked the numbers this morning and we’ve already sold 1.23 million [vehicles],” Sergio Marchionne, who is also chief executive of Fiat SpA , told reporters at a product launch hosted in Italy, according to inautonews.com.
“Chrysler sold 1.23 million cars in the first half, which is over half of our target,” Marchionne said at a press conference. “The objective of $3 billion is close at hand. We could overshoot it,” he added.
The company’s current target is for 2.8 million Chrysler Group cars and trucks to be delivered in the US. The only problem now is where to get the extra production capacity from, should it be needed. Fiat’s plan is to use leftover capacity in the Italian factories to satisfy demand instead of closing factories or letting people go.
