Chris Bangle to Design Samsung Phones and Laptops

We're not sure how many of you remember Chris Bangle, the former head of design from BMW, but we're pretty confident that most of the BMWs that you see today on the streets wear his marque. From now on, it would seem, the Bangle style will expand to notebooks and phones as well, as the man responsible for crazy ideas like the BMW Gina concept or the 5 Series GT has reportedly been hired by Samsung.

Back in 2009, Bangle decided to leave BMW after he was said to have run head to head with the auto maker's management on the subject of the Project i and its future as a stand alone brand or a BMW or MINI derivative.

As a result of his departure, Bangle said he would open his own design studio (now known as the Chris Bangle and Associates), but he pretty much sank into oblivion since then. Bangle resurfaced at this year's Geneva Auto Show, where he entered a debate with Saab's head designer, Jason Castriota, over the Swedish PhoeniX concept.

According to Autoblog, Bangle will be working for Samsung as an outside influence when it comes to the South Korean electronics specialist's phones and laptops. This means that Bangle will continue to work on his own projects as well, whatever they may be.

Bangle will work from a European design center Samsung will set up especially for the designer. No less than ten researchers will be sent by the South Koreans to work with Bangle on his designs. At the rate these segments of the industry are growing, it’s likely we will see the first results soon enough.
