Chinese Skoda Yeti Starting in 2010

Skoda will start production of the Yeti in China in 2010 but up until now, no official date for a Chinese debut has been released. China Car Times today wrote that the model is expected to go on sale in the first half of the next year, at about the same time with the Chinese-built VW Tiguan. There's no word on the engine to be fitted on the car but the Yeti will most likely be powered by a SAIC - VW engine, probably under the 1.6-liter displacement to be eligible for tax incentives.

Skoda Yeti was unveiled in March at the Geneva Auto Show and is already on sale in a number of selected markets. The engine lineup comprises five powerplants, two gasoline and three diesel, producing between 103 and 167 horsepower (77 and 125 kW respectively).

The 1.2-liter TSI with front-wheel drive is the smallest displacement-engine in the lineup, followed by the 2.0-liter TDI CR DPF unit that comes with either front wheel drive or 4x4. The top of the range engine is the 2.0-liter TDI CR DPF all-wheel drive that produces 167 horsepower (125 kW).

"The Yeti is a clever response by Skoda Auto to the increasingly important ecological issues in the popular and growing SUV class. Skoda has met the demands for a cleanly styled body, a high seat position and versatile operating options with a design, which despite its robustness, exudes lightness rather than bulky shapes,"
Skoda said in a statement for the press back in March when announcing the Yeti.
