Chinese Automakers Asked to Improve Quality Standards
text size: A- A+
The Chinese Ministry of Information and Technology has recently released an advisory statement, urging the country’s carmakers to develop a nationwide quality standard in order to improve the quality management process.
The authority stressed the fact that the automotive companies should elaborate complete plans for their development, and that these should be focused on offering a high level of quality, a target that can only be achieved through research activities, which should lead to technological innovations, and that requires a financial effort.
In addition to that, the country’s car producers were urged to expand their after sale services. One of the most important goals that should be achieved through this move is the establishment of a system for handling recall issues. This is a top importance area, as it is directly linked to road safety.
One recent example that illustrates the fact the Chinese authorities are determined to enforce a quality standard for the country’s auto industry is Tengzhong’s failure to purchase Hummer from General Motors. The Chinese company did not complete the deal as it has not obtained the permission to do so from China’s regulating authority. The governmental body considered that the company was not eligible for the process.
Last year, 13.79 million car were produced in China, making it the world’s largest car market, ahead of the U.S. and Japan. 44 percent of the vehicles were manufactured by self-owned brand companies.
