Chevrolet has expanded its offering in the full-size SUV segment with the introduction of the Midnight Special Edition versions of the Tahoe and Suburban.
The two full-size SUV models from Chevrolet are available with the Midnight package for the 2017 model year. The Tahoe is up 18% in sales when compared to 2015, so Chevrolet believes this will further enhance the model’s popularity with customers.
Meanwhile, the Suburban is doing even better, with a 30% increase in sales when compared to the same period of last year, so General Motors has a good reason to launch this distinct edition.
Chevrolet says that the two models represent about half of all full-size SUVs sold in the United States of America, even though they have a combined market share of only 3.6 percent. The latter refers to the entire U.S. vehicle market, evidently.
Chevrolet’s current offering of “Midnight Edition” models includes the Trax, Equinox, Colorado, and Silverado. With the two full-size SUVs added in the range, the American brand has two more reasons to bring customers to showrooms this year. Evidently, they will be available in 2017 as well, and we would not rule out extending the special edition up to 2018 model year.
Customers can buy the Tahoe or Suburban with the Midnight Package in two variants, the Z71 or the LT. Both versions are finished exclusively in black. The idea between two versions of the same package helps differentiate the two characters of each of the models that have received this option on the equipment list.
The LT Midnight edition starts from the LT trim levels of the Tahoe and Suburban. It adds 20-inch alloy wheels finished in black and fitted with all-season tires, a set of roof rack cross rails, black Chevrolet “bow tie” logos, and Black assist steps.
Customers that want ever more can get the Z71 Midnight Package. This offer includes an off-road-tuned suspension, skid plates, off-road tubular assist steps, fog lamps, tow hooks, sill plates, Z71 badging, and more.
The Goodyear DuraTrac tires fitted are specially made for off-road use, and so is the 3.42 axle and the two-speed transfer case. Evidently, the features of the LT are also present, when applicable.
