Chevrolet Hopes to Shock Europe with Six Models

2011 is going to be an important milestone in Chevrolet's history, as GM's European unit will introduce a total of six models in most markets across the continent. The company thus hopes that 2011 is going to be a "big positive", as Chevrolet Europe president Wayne Brannon told Just-auto in an interview in Spain, while introducing the new Orlando MPV.

The Orlando is Chevrolet's first MPV for the European market and will go on sale in early 2011 and is scheduled to be followed by the new Captiva, the Cruze five-door hatchback, the new Aveo, plus the Camaro in two configurations, hardtop and convertible. The Old Continent will receive the model with a choice of three engines, only one of which is petrol. This unit is a 1.8l engine which develops 141 hp. The diesel units, based on Chevrolet's 2.0l engine, come with outputs of 131 hp and 163 hp.

“One of the hardest things to do is break through the clutter of the marketplace,” Brannon said. “Now we are going to be talking about our cars simultaneously – that will help us to build the brand – it is a big positive. There are a lot of things happening at once – we bring products to market as fast as we can. We are filling out the line-up and improving our powertrain offer – that will give us access to the market.”

“When we took the legacy portfolio from the bankrupt assets of the former company there were no diesels – we are coming into a different category of cars – diesel is a European phenomenon."

Most of these six cars were brought to Paris earlier this year, with pricing details likely to emerge in the upcoming months, as we get closer to their official debut.
