Check out the BMW i8 Like You’ve Never See it Before

Ordering books for the BMW i8 will be open in the UK on July 19, the Brits being able to put in an order for the plug-in hybrid, if they want one. To celebrate the occasion, the UK branch of the German company decided to put together a beautiful photo gallery of the new model, in Protonic Blue.

The problem is, demand has been so high and production so limited that you’d have to be extremely lucky to take delivery of your i8 next year. According to BMW, all models scheduled for production this year have already been sold out.

As for the prices, the UK market i8 will start at £94,845 OTR and will be fitted with plenty of standard kit. You’ll also get the engine with the highest specific output built by BMW, the B38 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder unit making 231 HP and 320 Nm (216 lb-ft) of torque.

That plant will be aided by an electric motor making 131 HP and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque, for a grand total of 362 HP and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque that takes the 1,500 kilo (3,300 lbs) car up to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds.

Of course, part of that performance goes to the all-wheel-drive setup as well, as the electric motor power the front axle and the ICE the rear one. Furthermore, the design and aerodynamic drag coefficient help out as well, being one of the lowest in the world at 0.26 cd.

Compared to its rivals, the i8 is simply a next-gen car. The 49 grams of CO2 released into the atmosphere over one kilometer is actually 25% of what other cars like the Porsche 911 and Audi R8 are capable of. Furthermore, the fuel consumption can reach down to 2.1 l/100 km (121 mpg), something most cars can’t even brag about. In this context, the price tag makes more than enough sense. Would you get one?
