Chandhok Still Waiting on Team Lotus Deal
With that thought in mind, the former HRT driver came to Jerez this week aiming to show the Team Lotus bosses that he's worth a deal. And when asked about how advanced talks are regarding a potential contract with the squad, Chandhok admitted nothing has been finalized just yet.
“Right now I am here to do a test drive in one of the next three days. The deal is later and the rest comes way later,” the former GP2 graduate was quoted as saying to the Times of India at Jerez.
“It has been months since I last drove an F1 car and I am very excited to be back in the elite club. I am sure I can add value to the team and its development programme. Tony (Fernandes) and Mike Gascoyne understand the value I can bring to the team as a test driver. The final deal is yet to be finalised but things look bright at this point,” he added.
It is believed that together with a little bit of experience gained in the cockpit of HRT's car last year, Chandhok might also bring a good-looking sponsorship to Tony Fernandes' organization. And while that might help him secure a reserve role for 2011, it might also give him an opportunity to actually start for Team Lotus in the inaugural edition of the Indian Grand Prix, scheduled for October.
“There are lot of 'ifs' in it,” said Chandhok, trying to keep things under water for the time being.
