Only a little is known about the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg, as the German manufacturer tries to keep things secret for the time being. But here are the first two computer-generated images that could give us a glimpse into how the future SUV might look like. As you can see for yourselves, the car comes with several modifications over the current model, with an upgraded front fascia and a slightly redesigned rear end.

Previous media reports claimed that next Touareg will be a lot different under the bonnet than in exterior styling when compared with its predecessor, with the German manufacturer struggling to make the SUV a bit more appropriate for recession times.

Still not confirmed, but it appears the upcoming Touareg will be lighter than the current model, a modification that would also result in better engine performance, handling, reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. It was even rumored that the full-size SUV will weigh around 5,100 pounds, but everybody's still waiting for some official specs sourced from the German manufacturer.

An interesting development is expected for the price of the car, with the Touareg likely to be more affordable when it will go on sale in late 2010. The current generation is sold for around $40,000 in the United States, which means the future model will probably stay in the mid-$30,000 range.

Anyway, there are still a lot of unclear things when talking about the future Touareg, with all kind of reports pointing to tens of modifications that might find a place on the upcoming SUV. That's why we're still waiting for an official press release issued by the German manufacturer that will surely put things straight in this matter.
