It seems like the Nurburgring tourist drives are off to a disastrous start this week, with a fiery crash taking over the Nordschleife today.
Judging by various Facebook "reports" coming in from the Ring, as well as from what we can (barely) distinguish using the image above, we're dealing with a Westfield. And while we'll tip our lens to Nurburgring settler Boosted Boris for this image, we must also thank Ring Taxi driver Dale Lomas and Nurburgring tourist Junior Dada Schenkel for the other two photos we have here (you can check them out to your right).
The vague Facebook posts also talk about the driver getting trapped inside the flame-engulfed WestfieldCaterham, with the man fortunately being saved in time.
According to BridgeToGantry (a page run by Dale Lomas), the WestfieldCaterham and a Ferrari crashed - some people might be surprised that the Prancing Horse isn't the one being devoured by the fire. However, it seems both drivers walked away from the accident.
Moving into the area that includes less severe, but still bothering consequences, the fiery accident saw the track being closed a few hours ago, with only the GP circuit remaining open.
"It's NOT the Ferrari that's burning... (both drivers ok, but nordschleife closed, GP track still open)," the BTG Facebook post explains.
As you can see in these images, the unfortunate incident caused a massive queue on the Green Hell and all the drivers could do is sit around and watch the burning Westfield sending plenty of sad smoke signals.
Here's to hoping the guy behind the wheel of the toasted track toy didn't suffer burns or injuries following the said accident - we expect more info, along with a video, or at least more images, to land soon and we'll be back with updates as soon as we get our keyboard on them.
Update:While there's still no fresh info on the accident, we've added a second video at the bottom of the page - this confirms the car that caught fire is a WestfieldCaterham. The clip allows us to see the toasted track toy being taken away on the back of a truck and you can jump to the 10:59 point for this detail. You should also notice the removed right "door" (this is more of a skeletal element) - with the car having been photographed burning while stopped right next to the barrier on the side of the track, this makes full sense.
The truck transporting the Westfield is followed by another rescue vehicle, this time loaded with a Ferrari 458 Speciale, which would confirm yesterday's reports stating that a Prancing Horse was the second vehicle involved in the incident.
However, while the rest of the Speciale doesn't seem to be damaged, we don't get to see its nose - there could be a bit of damage on the lower left side of the front bumper, right in front of the wheel. And no, the supercar doesn't show any signs of fire.
