Caterham Plans Massive Expansion by 2020
Caterham CEO, former F1 team boss Mike Gascoyne, has announced that they plan to build tens of thousands of cars by 2020, and since they have recently begun to collaborate with a huge mainstream brand, Renault, perhaps their extensive ambitions may not be as far fetched as we originally thought. Their aim is to become a more profitable company, in order to be fully-capable of funding their F1 team.
They also plan to expand the lineup of cars that the offer, and dramatically so, as they only sell specialized trackday and racing cars at the moment, so their audience is rather limited. However, Gascoune says: “We’re not fools [. . .] Anyone can see that a company making nothing but two-seaters can’t hope to be very successful at present. Our cars will have other body styles. Our plan is to use Tony Fernandes’ contacts in Asia to sell cars into a specialist market that is expanding fast.”
