California-based company Superformance has announced it will be offering Caterham vehicles in the United States as of January 1, 2014, as the official distributor of the British brand.
Known for selling Shelby Cobra, Ford GT40 and Corvette Grand Sport replicas, Superformance will import a variety of Caterham Seven sportscars, including the Seven 480 and the brand new Seven 620R.
However, the vehicles will cross the Pond "in part-built form and sold as rolling chassis", which means customers will have to "complete the build personally". Pricing and further details have yet to be revealed.
"The US market has always been a difficult one for us, thanks to the stringent federal homologation rules. But we know there is an appetite for our particular brand of lightweight and performance and we already export our SP/300.R to the States through Dyson Racing," said Caterham Group CEO Graham Macdonald.
"In the last two years, Caterham has significantly broadened its reach internationally and signing a new official distributor in the form of Superformance in America is a natural extension of how our brand is expanding, rapidly, across the globe," he added.
