With this year’s Frankfurt Auto Show getting closer as we speak, automotive producers and aftermarket specialists have already begun revealing their goodies for the event. So is the case with the tuners at Carlsson, who will be exhibiting a project based on the Mercedes GL Grand Edition. Dubbed Carlsson CGL45, the conversion comes with changes in both styling and performance aspects of the car, such as an aerodynamic package and increased power and torque. Taken separately, exterior elements fitted to the car include wider wheel arches, a front spoiler and front spoiler lip, as well as a rear skirt, all shaped in the wind tunnel. But the list of cosmetic mods doesn’t end here. The SUV has also received a new chrome finished radiator grille featuring the tuner's leaping horse logo, and LED daytime running lights in the front spoiler lip. The visual pack is rounded off by a set of 22-inch Vredestein wheels wrapped in high-performance tires, and a stainless steel exhaust system featuring four oval end pipes. The tuning specialists have also touched the German SUV’s interior, which now features the highest-quality nappa leather, Alcantara, wood and stainless steel. The kit also include aluminum pedals, a signed plaque on the central console, embossed headrests featuring the Carlsson logo and illuminated door sills. Finally, the icing on the cake in any tuning enthusiast’s fridge is provided by the performance mods. In Carlsson’s case this brings a 15 percent increase in performance. Specifically, the 3.0-litre V6 in the CGL45 now develops 310 horsepower and 700 Nm, up from the 265 horsepower and 620 Nm featured in the standard Mercedes GL Grand Edition. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
