The huge number of car apps for smartphones clearly proves that, and the Consumer Electronics Show is the best place for new such apps to hit the market. Among the dozen presented at the show, CarLink is perhaps one of the most interesting.
Developed by Audiovox, CarLink can be used to control the remote start and keyless entry features of the vehicle. It provides a 2-way confirmation displayed on your smartphone along with full status reports with real-time updates and notification alerts, allowing the owner of the car to be aware, while outside the vehicle and thanks to his smartphone, of the open door on the vehicle, if any.
"CarLink is our first smartphone interface that builds upon the heritage that has made us a market leader in remote start systems for years, providing both OEMs and the aftermarket with products and features that are in high demand by consumers," said Tom Malone, president of Audiovox Electronics Corporation.

CES was the perfect venue for the system to be launched. While the app itself can be downloaded for free, the right to use it comes in the form of a yearly subscription worth $249 in the first year. After that, the service will cost $29.99.
