Carl Edwards Joins 2010 Race of Champions
Today's announcement also confirms the definitive lineup of Team USA for this year's Nations Cup, as Edwards will be joined by 11-time X-Games gold medalist and RoC veteran Travis Pastrana.
Edwards's first and only presence in the RoC happened two years ago, on Wembley Stadium in London, when he impressed everyone by defeating 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher in the first round by a 1.7-second margin. Unfortunately, he lost in the semifinals to former F1 driver David Coulthard.
He didn't have much success in the Nations Cup either, where he and drifting standout Tanner Foust were defeated in the first round by Andy Priaulx and Jenson Button (Team Great Britain).
“I really enjoyed my first trip to The Race of Champions and I’m delighted to be going back,” said Edwards. “It’s a great opportunity to mix with the best drivers from all the biggest series of motorsport around the world. I’ll be aiming to knock out some more megastars while Travis and I will give it everything to try and bring the ROC Nations Cup home to the USA.”
“We’re delighted that Carl can complete such a strong line-up for Team USA this year. He made a big impact at his first appearance in 2008, as Michael Schumacher will no doubt remember well. Now let’s see what he can do on Michael’s home turf…” added IMP President Fredrik Johnsson.
Aside from the two Americans, several other important figures of world motorsport have announced their presence on the Düsseldorf’s ESPRIT arena in late November, including 7-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher, 4-time F1 champion Alain Prost, 6-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb, current F1 driver Sebastian Vettel, 8-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen and 3-time FIA WTCC champion Andy Priaulx.
