It’s not that often you see a bicycle borrowing the looks of a classic car. In fact, in some cities out there these two ways of commuting around town are split in two separate clubs, groups that quite often fight over who should own the street. The funny thing is that this three-wheeler belongs to a company from Minsk, Belarus, one of the countries quite famous for road rage.
The Minsk-based company Ekomobil creates three-wheeled, electric bicycles whose design is inspired by the British Morgan retro car. Sure, instead of gasoline, you’ll have the range of a battery and your own pedaling strength, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a hell of a ride.
The lacquered composite body shell and 24-inch wheels on the outside, combined with wood veneer and leather trim make this toy a noteworthy commuter. And a green one, that is. In terms of specs, things are quite offering. When used in the human-power mode, the rider’s pedaling power is transferred via a chain drive to a Shimano Nexus 3-speed planetary hub transmission in the rear wheel.
According to Gizmag, the optional 48-volt hub motor is powered by an onboard battery, and it can reportedly take the vehicle to a top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph) while offering a non-pedal-assisted range of 30 to 40 km (19 to 25 miles).
Again, it may be a bicycle, but considering the Ekomobil Morgan replica has a prince range from €2,500 to €3,000 ($2,800 to $3,370) it’s going to be a lot cheaper than the actual Morgan 3-Wheeler.
