Canadian Repair Shop in Trouble for Drag Racing Police Cars

An auto body shop in Ontario lost a major client recently when two of its employees were accused of drag racing customer vehicles. That client was the Roseville Police Department, which was alerted to the drag racing when a citizen reported seeing a pair of Dodge Charger squad cars driving at excessive speeds.

According to a report in the Star Tribune, the president of the body shop had driven two employees to the police department to pick up the two police cars to perform repairs. In the report, he says that his company has been performing such pickups for 40 years with no complaints, and he is denying that there was any wrong doing.

The citizen who reported the incident said that the cars were spotted racing along a four-lane stretch of road where the speed limit is just 40 miles per hour. The shop’s president, who says was leading the two police cruisers back to the body shop, said that his employees did not speed or drive dangerously in the police-owned vehicles but he states that there was “quick acceleration from a stop sign.”

Despite the fact that there are two opposing accounts of what actually took place, the police department decided to cancel its account with the body shop and take its business elsewhere, although a spokesperson for the Roseville police did leave the possibility open of working with the shop in the future. Even though the president of the body shop denies the accusations against his shop, the report says that one employee was fired in hopes regaining the trust (and the business) of the Roseville police.
